In the opening day of my first semester in music theory my professor said something that has stayed with me to this day. In regards to music theory he said "Some of you will get this right away, this will be easy for you... others of you may have to work hard, spending hours each day trying to catch up with what took the other students only minutes. The fact of the matter is... it doesn't matter. The way the world works and this field of study maintains is, only the result matters! Nobody cares about the struggle. If it takes an hour or 5 minutes."
I believe this is true for most of life.
Many years after that theory class, when my arm was paralyzed, this took on even more meaning. I had to all of a sudden work harder just to stay even... let alone excel!
Life isn't fair! Get over it! If you have to work twice as hard as someone else... So what!? Stop admiring your struggle and get to work!
The only thing of any consequence is the result.
